Azorean immigrant Manuel Jacinto Clementino donates half a million dollars to help make the Magellan Centre a reality
For Immediate Release:
TORONTO, ON – December 17, 2021 – Today, Magellan Community Foundation (MCF) announced a $500,000 donation from Manuel Jacinto Clementino, Owner & Chief Executive Officer of Hallmark Housekeeping Services Inc.
“Manuel J Clementino’s generous donation brings us one step closer to reaching MCF’s $15 million capital campaign fundraising goal to build the long-term care and affordable housing complex. More importantly, we want to acknowledge that this generous donation will support and help us give back to Portuguese-speaking seniors in Ontario who sacrificed so much for their families and their communities,” says Ulysses Pratas, Chair, Magellan Community Foundation.
Mr. Clementino was born in the small town of Lomba da Maia on the island of São Miguel, Azores, Portugal. In 1969, he left the island with his parents and set out to make a new life in Canada. Upon his arrival, he immediately sought employment opportunities, working in a variety of industries, while attending night school to learn English. Under Mr. Clementino’s leadership, Hallmark Housekeeping Services Inc. has become one of the premier housekeeping companies in Canada.
“Alone you can do so little, but together we can do so much. It is with great honour that I join others in giving to our community,” says Manuel Jacinto Clementino, Owner & Chief Executive Officer of Hallmark Housekeeping Services inc.
Located in the heart of Toronto, the Magellan Centre will be the first long-term care home for Portuguese-speaking seniors; and affordable housing residences with a community hub for social gatherings.
